Tom was a nationally known titan in the landscape industry and spent his lifetime in the profession. He was a mentor (and later friend) to our founder David J. Frank when he was starting out.

Tom began his career in 1946 and joined his father as a partner in Lied’s Nursery Company in 1957. He later led Lied’s until 2012 when he sold the business to DJF and joined the company as a Senior Landscape Architect. He continued to work at DJF for the last 12 years.

His many contributions to the green industry included helping establish the WLCA, the Wisconsin Landscape Contractors Association, and the Associated Landscape Contractors of America, now known as NALP, the National Association of Landscape Professionals.
