Life by the Lake
With a panoramic view of Lake Michigan as a backdrop these owners love spending time in their yard; however, their existing stone patio didn’t meet their family’s needs or match their peaceful lake vision.

Client Need
With a serene Lake Michigan backdrop, the owners and their family love spending time as much outdoors as in. They wanted a multi-use patio for entertaining that was long-lasting and low-maintenance … and felt like an extension of the lake!
Inspiration
The inspiration for the project was most certainly the lake. The house has several full view windows, and we really wanted to tie in a “land-meets-water” feel. We knew a cohesive natural color scheme and the use of varied textures would be key.
Favorite Element
The client’s were very involved in the design and final location of the pergola and its piers. The soaring white beams create an instant “room” just outside the house and built-in down-lighting gives the space an inviting glow at night. The view of the faux bluestone patio extending out makes it feel like you’re sitting right along the lake!
The gas fire pit allows for effortless use. It turns on and off with ease, emits less smoke and involves no carrying of heavy logs.
Biggest Challenge
Cutting the stone for the circular section of the patio by the fire pit. This was tedious detail-orientated work, but Jeff Valenta and crew did a beautiful job fitting each piece.
Fond Memory
Crew leader Jeff Valenta is a dog lover, and the client’s golden doodle Toby became a great job site friend.
