Grafton Landscaping Services
David J. Frank Landscape Contracting has worked in Grafton for decades, on riverfront yards, village neighborhoods, and commercial sites near I-43. The Milwaukee River runs through the middle of town, and it changes what a property needs more than anything else here.
Our crews serve Grafton on a regular schedule. And that experience shapes the program for every property we take on.

What makes Grafton properties different
Grafton is built around the river. Downtown sits along it, Lime Kiln Park runs beside it, and plenty of homes back onto the banks or sit on the bluffs above.
That puts slopes on a lot of lots. Rain runs downhill toward the water and takes soil with it, so a yard near the bank needs erosion control before it needs anything decorative.
Away from the river, the village changes character. Older neighborhoods near downtown have smaller lots and big trees. Newer subdivisions toward the edges have thin topsoil over heavy clay, and Ozaukee County clay holds water longer than most homeowners expect.
Then Port Washington Road and the I-43 exits bring the commercial side, with retail lots, medical offices, and light industrial sites.
Residential design-build
Our residential design-build services put one team on the whole project, from the first sketch to the last paver. Riverfront and bluff properties drive most of the hardscape work in Grafton. Retaining walls hold the slope, terraced patios step down toward the view, and stairs replace the worn path to the water. On a slope, the wall behind the patio matters more than the patio itself, so that’s where we spend the most care.
Flat lots away from the river go a different direction. Paver patios, outdoor kitchens, and fire pits are the usual requests, usually with some privacy planting along the neighbor’s fence.
Lawn and soil
Riverfront lawns and village lawns have almost nothing in common. Soil near the bank drains fast and dries out by August. A yard two streets back sits on clay and stays soggy through April.
Our lawn care programs start with a soil sample and a look at the shade. Fertilizer timing follows how the grass is actually growing. Core aeration opens up compacted clay, and overseeding fills the thin spots under the big maples.
Trees
Grafton has a lot of large trees, especially along the river. Silver maples, cottonwoods, and old oaks lean out over the water and over rooftops.
Our certified arborists prune during winter dormancy, brace the trees worth saving, and take down the ones that have gone too far. Ash trees get special attention, since many of them have declined from emerald ash borer. Removal is a last resort, and the owner hears about it first.
Maintenance and Seasonal care
Regular maintenance means the same crew on the same day, week after week. Mowing, edging, mulch, and pruning stay on a schedule, and spring and fall cleanups get their own visits.
Entrances and front beds get seasonal color. Pansies go in for spring, petunias take over in summer, and mums close out the fall.
Irrigation on a riverfront yard needs a lighter touch, because sandy ground near the bank drains quickly and overwatering pushes runoff toward the river. Smart controllers keep the water on the lawn and off the slope.
Outdoor lighting works well on bluff properties, where a few uplights along the stairs make an evening walk safer. And our holiday decorating service covers Halloween through Christmas, with removal and storage after the season.

Commercial properties
Commercial sites along Port Washington Road and near the interstate share a common problem. Customers form an opinion in the ten seconds it takes to pull in, and the landscape is part of it.
Our commercial maintenance crews mow on a set schedule, keep beds mulched and edged, and handle the spring and fall cleanups. Contracts run April through November, and construction goes on all year.
New sites and renovations go through our design-build team, or through our bid-build crews when an architect has already drawn the plans.
Winter changes the priorities. Our snow and ice management crews plow the lots, clear the walks, and salt the spots that refreeze near dumpsters and downspouts. Entrances and accessible routes go first.
Commercial irrigation gets a spring startup and a fall drain-down, with repairs in between. Holiday decorations go up for businesses that want them, and come down when the season ends.
Plants indoors
Our interiorscape work puts plants in offices, medical waiting rooms, and lobbies. Every building is different, so plants get chosen based on the space. A crew visits on a schedule to water and swap out anything that fades.

Why Grafton property owners call us
We’ve served Grafton and the rest of Ozaukee County for decades. With over 250 employees, we can take on a single riverfront yard or a whole commercial property under one contract. The company that plows your lot in January is the same one mowing it in July. And that means one phone number for everything.
