Live the Dream
A custom pergola wraps the new bluestone patio around a handsome red brick fireplace creating an entertaining hub. Custom LED lighting, all-weather speakers and a connection for a monitor above the fireplace mantel transforms the new terrace for football game days.

Client Need
Client wished to renovate an overgrown perennial garden into a patio with a fireplace for personal enjoyment and entertaining.
Inspiration
The design largely follows the architecture of the house. The brick and detailing match that on the house. The white columns and arbor tie in with the existing trim and woodwork on the house and offer a high degree of detail.
Favorite Element
While the fireplace and arbor are the focal point of the project, it offers much more. Subtle lighting throughout the area, a sound system, the sound of water from the filtered fountain and flat screen capabilities on the fireplace mantel turn this space into football central on the weekends. Everything ties together, nothing else is needed.
Biggest Challenge
Not blocking views from the house to the conservancy. The fireplace was set on a forty-five-degree angle preserving the view as well as tying in the angles of the sun room and deck.
Tough Moment
At the conclusion of the projects first (and one of our most brutal) winter, I received a call that the boxwoods took a major hit. While a few ended up being replaced, most were technically pruned and fertilized and flourished.
