Xanadu

One property, four neighboring family homes, this one-of-a-kind estate in Milwaukee’s North Shore is made even more extraordinary by the impeccably maintained landscaping. After designing and installing this unique estate consisting of four stylistically different homes, we have managed the property for six years.

History

After designing and installing this unique estate consisting of four stylistically different homes, we have managed the property for six years. The authentic Victorian-style main residence (or Pink House) includes many pocket gardens with multi-season color requiring weekly gardening, attention to pruning, and removal of debris.  The other three homes have more traditional design aspects and different levels of service, but also boast gardens of hostas, roses, hydrangeas, and a multitude of perennials and shrubs that provide natural screening around the property. Four acres of beautifully maintained turf give the property a clean country-club look.

Client’s Criteria

The client gathered her landscape ideas and inspiration from the style and colors of her unique homes.  She developed a high level of gardening skills, so she is quick to critique and ensure our crew leaves each plant impeccably pruned, watered, fertilized, and managed for pests.

Managing the Magnificence and Beauty

The multiple season care for the multiple home property requires multiple crews working together to ensure all services are done in one day (every Thursday).  During the season, constant fertilizing and spraying make sure all plantings are healthy and vibrant.  The spruce, birch, and ornamental trees need constant care to look healthy.  The watering and irrigation system are monitored to ensure everything is not over or under watered, a challenge with the heavy clay soils and different areas of shade and sun.

The lawn is kept lush and green through core aeration and a custom fertilizing mix program due to heavy clay soil and shade areas. Weekly mowing keeps the yard looking manicured.

Monthly trimming and pruning are required to keep all hedges crisp and trees from growing into the surrounding landscape features and homes.  Extra time is taken to hand prune necessary plants since the client loves a natural look.

Each year we wash and clean the pathways and touch up polymeric sand as needed without making everything look new per the client’s request.  In the winter, all walkways and decks are hand shoveled with plastic blades as to not leave marks on the pavement. Algae and organic matter are removed from all paving in spring.
