Schlitz Park

Schlitz, a big-time beer brewer back in the day, has gone from beer to begonias (4,800 of them!) The landscape management at Schlitz Park has made this one of the most colorful, attractive, and desirable office parks in the state.

A Historic Transformation

Schlitz was a big-time beer brewer back in the day. After the brewery closed in the 1980s, the site was purchased and converted to a creative office campus. Today it’s home to over 30 businesses; approximately 800,000 square feet of buildings, expansive green space, plazas, and parking comprise its 32 acres.

No Ordinary Office Park

We have managed this property for over 20 years. However, in February 2019, Schlitz Park was purchased again, and the new owners have been further enhancing the property and its landscape. Their goal is to keep the campus—basically a small city—vibrant and appealing for visitors, prospects, and the 4,000 people who work there. The landscape management at Schlitz Park has made this one of the state’s most colorful, attractive, and desirable office parks.

Going from Beer to Begonias

Flower power is what makes this campus landscape stand out. Over 9,600 annual flowers—4,800 begonias—are planted in flower beds totaling 3,200 square feet. Because of the bodacious beds, gardening is an ongoing process, and much time is spent keeping them weed-free. Attention is given to the soil in the spring to help it maintain its health after a winter of heavy salting that is required to manage snow and ice. The ten large pots that beautify the outdoor beer garden must be hand-watered to help maintain their awesomeness. The care that goes into the wonderfully manicured lawn and healthy trees also deserves attention. It’s a reason why they used the word park when they named it Schlitz Park.

This northwest Milwaukee property had lost its luster so we were hired to rejuvenate and manage the “new” 18-acre Parkland Center. Our efforts landed a 2021 Wisconsin Bronze Medal for Commercial Landscape Maintenance.
